Pets in Unexpected Places: Ten Everyday Scenes Full of Character

A cockatiel perched beside a shower

A small cockatiel perches on a person's shoulder, close to the ear, with its pale yellow crest and orange cheek patch clearly visible. Damp feathers lie close to its body, while droplets cover the person's shoulder and face. Beige tile fills the background, keeping the scene's colors warm and subdued and leaving the bird as the main point of interest. The close framing emphasizes the bird's fine feather pattern and its relaxed position beside the person. The visible water suggests a just-washed setting, but the image offers no need to infer more than that: a bird and a person share the frame in an unusually intimate household moment. The contrast between the cockatiel's soft plumage and the shining droplets gives the photograph much of its texture. A small crest and bright cheek marking make the bird immediately recognizable.
