A steep stairway beneath a natural stone arch
A long, straight stairway draws the eye through a steep, forested gorge toward a tall opening in the rock. The steps form a narrow central line, while the cliffs rise on both sides and nearly close around the distant arch. Tiny figures along the route give the staircase a sense of scale without competing with the larger shapes of the landscape. At the bottom, a small roofed structure marks the entrance to the ascent; higher up, the path appears to pass through the natural opening.
The scene balances strong vertical forms with a single, carefully centered route. Dark, cool shadows cover much of the left cliff, while warmer light reaches the vegetation and stone on the right. A slender waterfall adds a second downward line beside the steps, and drifting mist softens the lower edges of the gorge. Beyond the arch, a patch of pale sky creates a bright focal point. The result is a layered composition in which the built path seems to lead directly into the mountain scenery.
