Chickens Gather Along Bare Branches

A large group of chickens occupies the branches of a leafless tree against a dark night sky. Their varied plumage—white, black, rust, buff, and mottled gray—creates a patchwork of color among the thin, branching lines. The birds are positioned at several heights, some close together and others spaced along the limbs, so the tree reads almost like a tiered perch. Red combs stand out sharply in the bright light. The bare branches make the arrangement easy to follow, while the black background removes most competing detail. A low wall, fencing, and leafy plants remain visible near the bottom edge, grounding the scene without taking focus from the birds. The unusual sight of so many chickens gathered above the ground gives the picture an unexpected, almost theatrical composition. Their different poses prevent the group from feeling like a uniform pattern: some face sideways, some look outward, and a few are partly screened by twigs. The result is a busy natural silhouette made from birds, branches, and small contrasts of color.
